SOUTHERN SECTION CURRENT EVENTS

01/29/25 - Training and Election Meeting, MCET, College of Southern MD Campus, Hughesville, MD

The WWOA Southern Section is holding an election meeting with two training classes on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. Registration fee for members is $40.00 for training, morning refreshments and lunch. Non-member prices is $65.99 and includes a 2025 membership. You do not need to be a Southern Section member to attend, all members are welcome! You must register no later than January 22, 2025. 50/50 tickets will be on sale and lunch will be catered by Randy's Ribs. Classes offered:

Aeration of Activated Sludge, BNR, and ENR Processes. TRE 4855-10-12 - All Wastewater Operators and Superintendents, All Industrial Wastewater Operators and Superintendents - Process - 7 hours

Class Description: Different technologies are used to aerate activated sludge processes, including Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) and Enhanced Nutrient Removal (ENR) processes. Various aeration options currently used, available, and evolving for activated sludge, BNR and ENR processes will be covered in this course. Specifically, types of aeration diffusers (mechanical, fine bubble, and membranes) and blowers (positive, multistage, single stage, and high speed) will be addressed. The influence of MCRT and MLSS will also be addressed as to the efficiency, ease (or difficulty) and cost of aeration. Airflow rate requirements and their calculations will be discussed in depth. Diffuser fouling and scaling issues will be discussed. Finally, helpful operating hints will be provided based on experiences from operating facilities.

Southern Section Past Events

07/27/24 - Member Appreciation Event - Clements, MD

The Southern Section hosted a Section Membership Picnic at Bowles Farm. The event, which drew 75 members, their families, and friends, was a resounding success, offering a perfect blend of delicious food, activities, and member interaction. Bowles Farm provided a delectable spread including hot dogs, hamburgers, a selection of sides, and desserts. But what would a picnic in Southern Maryland be without steamed crabs, freshly steamed on-site by Robbie Newton of Hollywood, Maryland. Door prizes were awarded throughout the day and there was a 50/50 drawing. We look forward to next year's event!
