Join fellow members for an electrical safety operator class on November 4, 2026! The training class will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church Hall in Charlotte Hall, MD. The registration fee for WWOA members is $50.00 for the training, morning refreshments and lunch catered by Randy's Ribs - what a bargain! The non-member fee is $75.00 and includes a one-year membership. All registrations must be done online.

Technical Session: Electrical Safety Fundamentals for Water & Wastewater Operators - TRE pending

Course Description: Operators will be introduced to the basic electrical safety principles needed to safely work around electrical equipment commonly found in water and wastewater facilities. The course includes a review of basic electrical terminology, electrical components, and common hazards associated with motors, breakers, disconnects, transformers, MCCs, and control panels.

Lockout/Tagout requirements, hazardous energy isolation, and verification of a zero-energy condition will be covered, with emphasis on operator responsibilities and recognizing when qualified electrical personnel are required. The course will also address Arc Flash hazards, warning labels, approach boundaries, PPE awareness, and safe work practices around energized electrical equipment.

Facility-based scenarios and common electrical safety situations will be used to reinforce hazard recognition, proper response, and safe decision-making.

The Southern Section hosted their annual Membership Appreciation crab feast and picnic at the 7th District Optimist Park. Another great turn out, food, activities, door prizes, raffle and more!

The event, which drew over 50 members, their families, and friends, offered a perfect blend of delicious food, activities, and member interaction. Door prizes were awarded throughout the day and there was a 50/50 drawing. We look forward to next year's event!

07/27/24 - Member Appreciation Event - Clements, MD

The Southern Section hosted a Section Membership Picnic at Bowles Farm. The event, which drew 75 members, their families, and friends, was a resounding success, offering a perfect blend of delicious food, activities, and member interaction. Bowles Farm provided a delectable spread including hot dogs, hamburgers, a selection of sides, and desserts. But what would a picnic in Southern Maryland be without steamed crabs, freshly steamed on-site by Robbie Newton of Hollywood, Maryland. Door prizes were awarded throughout the day and there was a 50/50 drawing. We look forward to next year's event!
